The 2016 bikes are on the horizon, inching ever closer. And as more and more companies launch their new product lines, Bergamont follow suit with the introduction of the Trailster C, their first foray into the long-travel E-MTB market. With its modern geometry and aggressive design, they’re hoping to create a stir. We’ve taken a closer look at the most affordable model, the Trailster C 7.0.

Update (November 2015)

In the meantime we had the chance to conduct an extensive test of the bike. Head over to the
E-Mountainbike Review of the Bergamont E-Line Trailster C 8.0 2016.

The Bergamont Trailster C has been designed to provide as much fun as possible on the trails. The model shown here retails at 3,799 € (or 3,999 € depending on the battery).
The Manitou Mattoc front fork unites rigidity with a low weight.

Uniting 150 mm front travel and 140 mm at the rear with aggressive geometry, the Bergamont Trailster C is destined to deliver a fun ride on the trails. For the 2016 model, the Trailster C features a 250-watt Bosch CX Performance motor with 60 Nm torque, which offers substantial power to the rider. The removable battery is available in a 400 or 500-watt version.

The underside protector should protect the bike from any unwanted hits and debris.

Taking 650b wheels, the bike’s modern geometry consists of a balanced 67.5° head angle, a long top tube, short chainstay and lower bottom bracket. In addition, there’s a welcome fibreglass reinforced bash guard, designed by Bergamont, to protect the motor.

The Manitou McLeod rear shock has adjustable rebound and compression to suit the rider’s preferences.

When you’re pushing the bike hard, the 12×142 mm thru axle at the rear gives you extra rigidity and a more confidence-inspiring ride. The special chainguide keeps the chain on the distinctive pulley, which is located above the main rear pivot point and should counteract any potential negative chain influence.

The pulley separates the drivetrain and the rear, thereby counteracting any negative influences.

The Trailster C is set to hit the market with 3 models. The model presented here is the most affordable, the C 7.0, which will retail at 3,799 € (with a 400 Wh battery) or 3,999 € (500 Wh battery). Next up is the Trailster C 8.0 at 4,299 € (with 400 Wh batterh) or 4,999 € (500Wh battery). The top of the range model is the Trailster C 9.0 for 5,199€ and its 500 Wh battery.

DThe Shimano XT groupset is lightweight and makes easy work of shifting.

The Trailster C 7.0 uses the Manitou Mattoc Pro forks at the front, and a Manitou Mclead shock at the rear. Bergamont largely chose proven Shimano parts, opting for Shimano BR M447 brakes to take control of anchorage, and the tried and tested XT groupset. The X1900 wheelset hails from DT Swiss. As this is the most affordable model, the absence of a dropper post in the spec is a point of contention.

First Impression

On paper the Bergamont Trailster C lays down a good trail with its competitive price, cool image and clever features, rendering it a very promising option for the coming season. With geometry numbers that are already making us itch to take it out on our test trails, we’re stoked to see just what the new Trailster C is going to be capable of. As soon as we get our hands on a test bike, this will be the first place to read about it.
