NOX HeLIUM 2022 – Two new models with the lightweight FAZUA motor system

NOX Cycles have updated their eMTB HeLIUM range for 2022 and equipped both bikes in it with the light FAZUA Ride 50 Trail motor. Find out here what other innovations await in the unique HeLIUM All-Mountain and HeLIUM ENDURO.

NOX HeLIUM 7.1 ENDURO Pro | FAZUA Ride 50 Trail/252 Wh | 180/180 mm (f/r) | € 8,499 | Manufacturer’s website

NOX Cycles continue to rely on the lightweight and compact FAZUA Ride 50 system with the new HeLIUM 2022 models, but update their bikes to the new Ride 50 Trail motor. NOX integrate it into the All-Mountain 5.9 model with 150/140 mm travel and the ENDURO 7.1 model with 180 mm travel. You can read our review of the 2020 model of the NOX HeLIUM 5.9 Allmountain Pro here, where we praised the light front end and agile handling. Read on to find out what has changed in the update.

Short-stroke 29er vs. long-stroke mullet

29″ front and rear or…
… 29″ at the front and 27.5″ at the rear?

The biggest difference between the NOX HeLIUM All-Mountain and the ENDURO is that the ENDURO uses mixed wheel sizes i.e. 29″ in the front and a small 27.5″ wheel in the rear. On the other hand, the All-Mountain comes with 29″ wheels at both ends. In addition, the ENDURO has 180 mm front and rear, while the All-Mountain makes do with 160 mm at the front and 150 mm at the rear. The geometries of the two bikes differ only marginally – the top tube, seat tube, head tube and chainstay lengths are actually identical, suggesting that both bikes share the same platform.

NOX HeLIUM ENDURO 7.1 2022 spec in detail

The NOX HeLIUM ENDURO 7.1 2022 comes in three builds: Comp, Expert and Pro. All three come with 180 mm travel front and rear, controlled by FOX suspension on the Pro and RockShox suspension for the lower-end models. They all share a beefy-looking coil sprung shock. SRAM provide the drivetrain for all models, while the brakes come from MAGURA. The ENDURO Pro model is the most expensive in the entire HeLIUM lineup at € 8,499. The Expert and Comp builds are priced the same as the corresponding All-Mountain models at € 6,599 and € 5,799 respectively. That means you can choose between a mullet with more travel or 29er with less travel without any difference in price.

The NOX HeLIUM All-Mountain 5.9 2022 also comes in 3 builds. The biggest differences to the ENDURO are the air shock at the rear and the slimmer suspension forks up front. Instead of the FOX 38 fitted to the ENDURO flagship model, the 36 is used instead. The All-Mountain models range from € 5,799 for the Comp and € 8,699 for the Pro. In between, at € 6,599, is the sensibly specced Expert variant. With the Comp model, you’ll have to budget € 200 more as it comes without a dropper post.

NOX HeLIUM 5.9 All-Mountain Comp | FAZUA Ride 50 Trail/252 Wh | € 5,799

NOX HeLIUM powered by FAZUA Ride 50 Trail

The motor system from FAZUA supports you with 58 Nm of torque and a 252 Wh battery. An additional battery can be purchased as an option for all NOX HeLIUM models for € 200. However, at 1.4 kg, you will have to carry it in your backpack if you want more range, because it can’t be attached to the bike as a range extender. You can find more information on the FAZUA motor in our big motor group test here.

The total weight of the FAZUA Ride 50 Trail System is 4.4 kg.

Ebike vs. analogue bike – NOX promise both

NOX promise two bikes in one thanks to the FAZUA drive. As our test of the predecessor FAZUA Ride 50 Evation showed, bikes with this system don’t exhibit any increase in pedalling resistance, allowing them to be ridden “normally” if the battery unit, which consists of battery and motor, is removed. If you do, NOX supply the the matching cover to close the down tube, protecting the motor gearbox, which remains in the frame, from dirt.

Availability of NOX HeLIUM 2022 models

NOX say the new models will be available from the beginning of summer 2022 and can be pre-ordered from your NOX dealer. The bikes are only available the two sizes medium and large.

With the update of the HeLIUM line, NOX remain true to their 2-in1 strategy with partner FAZUA and are going all in on versatility. We’re curious to see the effect of the slight geometry change and updated spec on the trail. We’ll tell you whether NOX Cycles’ progressive concept works once we’ve spent some time testing the bikes.

Juli is used to dealing with big rigs. Besides working on his bike, he also tinkered and worked on buses after completing his training as a vehicle mechatronics engineer. Since the development of large-scale electric motors was too slow for him, he went on to study technical business administration while building carbon fibre tables on the side. Though his DJ bike is welded from thick aluminium tubes, his full-susser is made of carbon and it's already taken him to the top of numerous summits. Apart from biking, he likes climbing via ferratas or vertically on the wall. Nowadays, his personal bike gets ridden less as he tests the bikes that get sent to us, pushing them to their limits to see what they're capable of.
