Hype This – Four exciting new ebike brands for 2021

When you first stumble across an ebike from an unknown brand, you immediately ask yourself why you should buy anything from them. What sets the bike and the brand apart? We introduce you to four newcomers that have caught our attention and are sure to grab yours too.

HoheAcht

If you’ve ever visited the Eifel mountains, you’ll be familiar with the Hohe Acht. The highest peak in the Eifel region is a bucket list destination for both hikers and fans of the Nürburgring. Not far away, bike company TechniBike have launched a new range of HoheAcht branded city, trekking and mountain bikes for 2021, all of which are powered by the latest Shimano EP8 motor and equipped with a 630 Wh battery. Most notably, they come factory fitted with a PowUnity GPS tracker from BikeTrax, intended to prevent your bike from being stolen. The HoheAcht portfolio includes everything you could wish for, from a comfortable city E-commuter to a 120 mm travel full-suspension touring bike. According to Christian Koll-Schwarze, HoheAcht director, the company is already working on a hard hitting 150 mm travel carbon full-susser. The € 4,099 Sento Lumo E-hardtail deserves a special mention with its Rose Beetle flip flop paint job. Instead of a suspension fork, it comes fitted with a Columbus carbon fork, making it a candidate for motorised cross-country racing.

FEDDZ

FEDDZ is an acronym for Fahre Elektrisch Durch Die Zukunft (Ride The Future Electrically) which also happens to be the startup’s motto. Fully committed to E-mobility, the company is based in tranquil Mittelbiberach in southern Germany. The brand has made a name for itself with its stylish E-mopeds, built almost entirely with locally sourced components. For 2021, FEDDZ have introduced a range of eMTBs to their portfolio. The PFC1 is the flagship model and promises to be an exciting option for trail fans. The full-suspension eMTB is powered by a Brose Drive S Mag motor and an integrated 630 Wh battery. With a carbon frame and FOX suspension, the eMTB can be yours for € 6,499 and is available from the FEDDZ concept store in Berlin. FEDDZ also offer two more affordable aluminium eMTBs equipped with Shimano EP8 motors and capable of tackling almost any terrain. The timeless black and white colour scheme is part of FEDDZ’s look, though custom paint jobs are available for a surcharge.

GASGAS

To call GASGAS a newcomer would be wrong. GASGAS have been on the trial and enduro motorcycle scene for over 40 years. For 2021, they’re risking a new step in the company’s history, aiming to branch out and mix up the ebike market. The Spanish brand has chosen Yamaha as its trusted motor supplier for all its models. The capable, 160 mm travel GASGAS Enduro Cross 11.0, 9.0 and 8.0 models, and the 140 mm travel Train Cross 9.0 should prove ideal for trail adventures in demanding terrain. They’re powered by Yamaha’s 80 Nm PW-X2 motor and a 630 Wh battery from Simplo. GASGAS’ Cross Country range includes three 29” hardtails, which could be just the right thing for tourers and those who prefer taking in the scenery. Catering to youngsters, the Cross Country 3.0 model is equipped with small 26” wheels and Yamaha’s PW-CE motor with a maximum torque output of 50 Nm. Tying all the bikes together is GASGAS’ classic red paintwork, so there’ll be no mistaking them as they fly by on the trail.

BiXS

BiXS aren’t really a newcomer either. The Swiss brand has been involved in the analogue mountain bike mar- ket since 2001 and manufactures bikes according to their “Big Six” principles. Passion, Swissness, experience, customer proximity, trust and partnership. For 2021, their relatively new ebike portfolio already includes five ranges, including three full-suspension and two hardtail eMTBs. The LANE E-series is made for the roughest terrain, with prices starting at just under € 5,415 and powered by the Yamaha PW-X2 motor, a unique selling point in the BiXS lineup. The flagship model comes with FOX Factory suspension and other high-end components such as a complete SRAM X01 Eagle 12-speed drivetrain and Shimano XTR brakes. All other models rely on the new Shimano EP8 motor, in- cluding the powerful SAUVAGE full-suspension eMTB. The SIGN E and CORE E ranges are designed for more relaxed riding and the MARIPOSA labelled bikes are BiXS women-specific models, offering adapted frame sizes, wheels and contact points.
