With the Heritage Altitude, French ebike manufacturer Ateliers HeritageBike launched the first eMTB with the 130 Nm motor of French automotive giant Valeo and Effigear’s integrated 7-speed automatic gearbox. Rear derailleur, au revoir! Here’s all the most important information about the new bike.
Ateliers HeritageBike is a small but distinguished French ebike manufacturer based on the shores of Lake Annecy. The bikes are designed to strike a harmonious balance between state-of-the-art technology, craftsmanship, French know-how, and luxury. To do the “Made in France” justice, HeritageBike produce, paint and assemble the bikes in-house at their French headquarters. Whenever possible, they use French components and alternatively source them from other European manufacturers in order to keep their carbon footprint as small as possible.
French automotive giant Valeo, which employs over 100,000 people, supplies the motor of the Heritage Altitude. According to Valeo’s own statement, their Smart e-Bike System is the most powerful mid-engine motor currently on the market, churning out a whopping 130 Nm torque and providing up to 450% assistance. This puts the Valeo drive in the same league as the 110 Nm SACHS RS motor and the most powerful ebike motor produced to date, the 120 Nm TQ HPR 120S, which became popular thanks to the Haibike FLYON model range. However, what makes the Heritage Altitude truly unique is the unusual motor and gearbox combination. The Valeo motor is paired with a automatic 7-speed gearbox that was developed in close cooperation with Effigear, a French bicycle gearbox specialist that has been active since 2002. Needless to say, this makes a rear derailleur totally superfluous.

Our conclusions
With its unusual look, brushed alloy components on the tank-shaped top tube and massive skid plate, the Heritage Altitude is reminiscent of a vintage motor bike. We’re particularly excited about the powerful Valeo motor with automatic Effigear gearbox and can’t wait to take the bike on a proper test ride!
