Despite being still unnamed and quite frankly still in the womb, we’re now in a position to reveal what this E-MTB is set to look like. Hailing from ROSE, the Bocholt-based direct order company, this marks their first E-MTB, and has been developed alongside the motor specialists Continental.

The very first E-Mountain bike from Rose is kitted out with a Continental motor, and features a frame-integrated battery.

The very first E-MTB from ROSE hit the shops in April 2016. It’s a hardtail with 120 mm travel, 27.5+ tyres and a motor courtesy of Continental. Housed in the down tube, the removable battery has a capacity of 612 Wh, and provides the 250-watt motor (90 Nm) with energy.

Far from road-ready, this prototype has been created using a 3D printer.
The forks on this bike don’t match the stock ones, as the series bike will be available with RockShox Pike forks.
Confirmed: The bike will feature a dropper post.
The cables unite to enter the frame in one location.
Still far from complete, the design will undergone alterations before launching onto the market.

The Rose E-MTB can roll on either 27.5+ or 29″ wheels. Thanks to its slack 68° head angle, it should render it a satisfying decent trail mate. According to Christoph Krüppel, the design centred around creating a bike that’s focused on fun.

Plus tyres and pedal assist: two features that couldn’t complement each other better. The Rose will sport 2.8″ wide Schwalbe Nobby Nic when hitting the stores.
Special wheels are necessary for these fatter tyres, and these ones hail from DT Swiss.
The disc brakes are well protected in the rear end.

The short 458 mm chainstay should make a generous contribution to the level of fun that this new E-MTB offers. This has been achieved by welding the chainstay via a special yoke onto the mount for the motor. Here’s an overview of the geometry of the three available models:

Size M L XL
Top tube horiz. 595 mm 620 mm 640 mm
Chainstays 458 mm 458 mm 458mm
Head angle 68° 68° 68°
Seat angle 74,5° 74,5° 74,5°
BB height -55 mm -55 mm -55 mm
Seat tube length 440 mm 480 mm 520 mm
Reach 412 mm 437 mm 457 mm
Stack 660 mm 660 mm 666 mm
The roomy down tube has space for both the battery and motor.

But this E-MTB doesn’t just mark a brand new venture for ROSE, it’s also the very first time that Continental have designed a motor specifically for an off-road bike. To enable it to be as intuitive as possible to use, they’ve created a special lever together with Ergon that you press to switch between the levels of pedal-assist.

Completely new: the lever that controls the computer and level of pedal-assist. This one’s still a prototype, the final version will be a lot more compact and allow for standard grips.
To ease service, the Continental display computer features a micro USB port. It will be possible to connect any smartphone via bluetooth – for navigation apps for example.
Here’s a closer look at the side of the frame that houses the battery.
The Continental motor will have a 90 Nm torque.

The official retail price hasn’t yet been made public.
