The Scott E-Aspect combines the qualities of a classic mountain bike with some modern features: large 29-inch wheels are the current trend for mountain biking as their large diameter offers more traction, comfort, smooth running, and stability compared to conventional 26-inch wheels. Thanks to the electric assist, the extra weight and inertia is not noticeable.

The E power is generated by a Bosch drive system with a maximum performance of 250 watts and a 400wh battery service life, guaranteeing long-lasting tours.

The position of the Bosch drive system provides for a low centre of gravity resulting in nice maneuverability. However, the drive system is pretty exposed and may get damaged by hazards in off-road terrain or when riding down steps.

The assist mode (Turbo – Sport – Tour – Eco – Off) can be adjusted comfortably, securely and easily via a control unit without letting go of the handlebar. Zipping through the menu to get information on things like reach, average speed, time, or maximum speed.

Time to hit the trails in the Stuttgart area! And because it’s always nicer to have some company, a friend came along to join me on the tour – on a sporting and fast mountain bike. He soon realized that the mountain bike was not such a good idea – namely as soon as we started the second climb I was already deeply relaxed, grinning from ear to ear, waiting for him at the top. His only comment, displaying his rupturing ego was: “You go ahead, let’s meet at the Bear Palace!” Said and done! This allowed me to really exploit the E-Aspect 910. Right from the beginning, I enjoyed the central and slightly stretched seating position. The moderate and well-balanced geometries allowed nice handling.

The Rock Shox XC32 with 100 mm of travel and adjustable rebound damping (controlling the speed of the shock), in combination with the large wheels, provided great comfort and smooth running off-road. The Shimano brakes decelerated confidently.

The Scott E bike is real fun on both uphills as well as on downhills. Saying it wasn’t hard work even with E assist would be a lie though! The difference simply is that the ground speed is considerably higher, which makes the rather flat trails around Stuttgart more appealing – and of course the personal feel-good-factor increases as well when you reach your destination ahead of your buddies!

Unsuitable for imitation: experienced riders have twice as much fun riding an E bike! It was easily possible to do a jump on a climb(!). As few as three pedal rotations provided enough speed to outwit the laws of physics for a brief moment. Even we could not believe it. Due to the heavy overall weight of roughly 21 kg, a little efforts and strength is obviously needed to lift the bike off the ground.

Good to know that the E-Aspect allows having fun, even in ‘extreme’ terrains: the E-Aspect converts any terrain into a playground for the young and the young at heart of any class of age – whether it be trail, gravel path, or meadows. Even in urban surroundings, this E mountain bike provides a plus in safety. Thanks to a potent fork, good brakes, and rugged design, they display the ‘SUVs and all-terrain vehicles’ of the urban jungle.

“Where are you?” – with a short Whatsapp message I asked my friend about his whereabouts. It took him another 15 minutes until he finally reached the Bear Palace as well. Electronics facilitate everyday life – on as well as next to a bike.

Deserved break: An E mountain bike does not keep you from burning calories and requires you in action as well; the advantage is, you manage to travel a lot further in the same amount of time but with more fun – so let’s face another climb!

To sum up: The E-Aspect 910 is a modern, rock-solid bike providing loads of riding fun. Mountain bikers who want their lady or friends to come along on an E mountain bike should be warned: this challenge is usually won by the Scott. The E-Aspect is a good choice for gravel paths and easy single trails. With its weight of approximately 21 kg and the quite exposed Bosch drive system right below the bottom bracket, it demands rather skilled bikers.
