9point8 Fall Line

With a new 200 mm option for taller riders, we were expecting the 9point8 Fall Line to retain its crown from the last group test. Designed, tested, and assembled in Canada, the Fall Line post is beautifully engineered, complete with captured bolts and titanium hardware. The ThumB remote can be installed in either a vertical or horizontal position, integrating well on the bar, and an optional trigger remote is also available. Inside, their DropLoc mechanical brake allows infinite adjustment which can be manually locked in the case of an air pressure failure. 9point8’s engineering focus is evident everywhere; the seat clamp is a work of art, tough and solid with titanium bolts for maximum weight savings. Seat rails are captured from the side rather than the top, so fitting a seat is a joy – however, if you have oval carbon seat rails you will need to buy an optional head.

Trail testing has revealed the post to be 100% reliable. Even after thousands of cycles we encountered zero lateral play in the seat head, and return speed (adjustable) and smoothness remained box-fresh. Release, action, and locking were all faultless whatever the temperature or rider position. Stripping down the post, we found simple internals with excellent online service guides (a printed QR code on the post takes you directly to the videos). So… reliable, desirable with faultless performance – surely an easy victory? Not quite. You need to follow the installation instructions very carefully to ensure a stress-free time. Once fitted, tool-free removal is very easy using the quick connect system. Overall, the 9Point8 Fall line is an exceptional post, and a favourite for those who love high build quality.
