What to expect in this issue?
From urban commuting to remote alpine adventures, SUV ebikes are the ideal companion for almost any terrain and task. That’s why we’ve tested 10 new and exciting SUV ebikes for this issue, each offering a variety of smart features and solutions to ensure you’re ready for anything! Our verdict: We should give a new meaning to “SUV”. The latest generation of SUV ebikes is no longer just a “Suburban Utility Vehicle”, it is a “Super Utility Vehicle”!
During the summer we embarked on another adventure and travelled to Canada. There we had the opportunity to explore Vancouver’s iconic North Shore trails with Wade Simmons, the godfather of freeriding. This experience was a nostalgic trip back to our youth, when figures like Wade Simmons inspired us from across the Atlantic to build trails and venture into the local forests on two wheels. Wades’ conclusion on eMTBs: “We never dared to dream of such machines in the past.”
A special highlight was our visit to Bosch eBike Systems, the pioneer and top dog in the motor segment. For our exclusive story, we met with developers, product managers, lab managers and the CEO of Bosch eBike Systems to dive into the ABCs of motor development. We also explored the concept of turning electricity into riding fun.
In the meantime, we have tested plenty of hot bikes from well-established companies and newcomers halfway around the world for you! These include the latest eMTBs with the SRAM Eagle Powertrain motor system, as well as light eMTBs such as the M1 EN 400 SX with the new Bosch SX motor, which we tested in the Dolomites, the Santa Cruz Heckler SL with FAZUA Ride 60 and the Advanced Offroad Pro Race MTB FS with Bosch CX Race.
In this issue we also take you behind the scenes. For the first time, we give you a sneak peek into the editorial process behind one of our most extensive productions – our annual eMTB group test, which last year featured a whopping 30 (!) eMTBs. We share some of our secret methods and reveal what sometimes pushes us to our limits, but at the same time fills us with great enthusiasm! In fact, we are already preparing for the next mega group test, which will be published in spring 2024!
And if that wasn’t enough of an insight into the bike industry, we also travelled across France to accompany the innovative development process of the new Moustache J ebike. A bike whose frame is entirely produced in France. A testament to passion and craftsmanship that highlights the bike industry’s commitment to pioneering new frontiers in sustainability and local production.
