What to expect in this issue

It looks like 2020 will be the best year in eMTB riding yet! We put 25 of next season’s most exciting eMTBs head to head in our biggest group test ever. Read on to find out the trends of the new season, and which bike comes out on top.

Tick, tock: the minute hand creeps slowly around the clock face… 5 pm is almost here. Important tasks on the computer screen have long since blurred into insignificance and your focus has shifted to plotting the fastest way home. How will I avoid the traffic, and where did I leave my helmet? Bike, helmet, gloves, winter shoes, lights – above all don’t forget the lights! Who said it’s only the weekend when we can have fun? We are the 9 to 5 daydreamers and it’s time to shred with some friends!

Ever since eMTBs hit the scene less than a decade ago, their design has seen something of a ‘turbo-charged’ evolution and development. We analyse the latest geometry trends and crunch the numbers to find out how eMTB geometry influences your fun on the trail.

Each E-MOUNTAINBIKE City Escape Guide inspires in its own unique way. Get to know a new side of global cities, meet interesting locals, and pick up the best insider tips, such as the local lingo, the dos and don’ts, as well as the must-visit cafes, bars, restaurants, and bike shops. Naturally, GPX files of selected routes are included. In each City Escape feature, we also present the bikes that we used for exploring the city and its surroundings.

Olympic and World Champion, World Cup winner, military athlete, Wok World Champion and now, towering above all else: eMTB rider. For many, the man needs no introduction: Georg Hackl, also known as Hackl Schorsch. We visited him at home in Bavaria’s Berchtesgaden and grabbed the opportunity to catch up with the luge legend over a bike ride.

“Senza tentazioni, senza onore.” Fantic are a company racing along at full throttle. With 50 years of experience at the cutting edge of motorcycle design, the prestigious brand now brings its combination of striking design, innovative engineering and Italian flair to its eMTB portfolio. However, while visiting Fantic’s new eMTB facility, we soon learnt they don’t conform to every Italian stereotype.
