M.A.S.S. – The fine collection by Moustache and Philippe Starck

Bike manufacturer Moustache presented a very special collection of e-bikes together with french designer and visionary Phillip Stark at Eurobike 2014. The M.A.S.S. collection, which is short for MUD, ASPHALT, SAND, SNOW. It consists of four well designed e-bikes, each and every one adapted for a special purpose.

The SNOW – the M.A.S.S. collection’s most poignant bike with fur and lefty.
When one decides to have a chat with the Moustache Team and especially with the french designer Phillippe Starck, one notices immediately that one is not dealing with an average bike manufacturer. Phillipe is a visionary fully-hearted biker, who sees bikes as a way to make the world a better place. Bikes mean more to him than just a sport gadget and a way of transport.
“If one doesn’t consider the benefits of physical activity, the central aspect of cycling is that fairness and balance is turned into reality. Bikes are one of human’s most powerfull tools. They offer sheer endless possibilities, and this with minimum material use. The bike is the first step against the materialisation of society.”
Philippe Starck
Philippe has in mind that e-bikes are the natural development of this concept and are a perfect chance to extend the range of bikes. This was the basis for Moustaches’s development. All of the four bikes are optimised for a specific terrain and should help to minimise the borders of mobility.
ASPHALT
This bike is oiptimised in speed as well as in comfort. It is fully suspended and comes with an electronic Shimano Alfine Di2 11V, the drive train system is combined with the Bosch Drive. This made it possible to combine both systems. The ASPHALT will be available in a 25 km/h version and in a de-restricted 45km/h version.

Without 25 km/h restriction, street tyres and adjustment, the ASPHALT is optimised for urban mobility.

The fine leather saddle is used by all bikes of the M.A.S.S. range.

The ASPHALT’s light and strong carbon chain-guard.
MUD
The fully suspended warm grey MUD can be used as a all-terrain bike on any terrain. Fitted with high-end components, such as the Shimano XTR brakes and two different wheel diameters: A 29″ wheel at the front covers a good rolling resistance and the rear comes with a 27,5″ wheel, that ensures good agility.

Different wheel sizes and profile tyres – Moustache’s all-terrain bike, MUD.

Philippe Starck creates a very unique look via the tube’s geometry.
SAND
This Fatbike should create the possibility to explore coastal stretches directly by the water. The Bosch Motor, the voluminous tyres and the Shimano XTR brake system make it easy to cover a long distance of unexplored stretches of sand. The frame triangle including battery can be protected against sand, water and salt with the help of a protection cover.

The SAND’s cover protects against sand, salt and water.

The fat tyres make it easy to cross soft sand.

The Bosch Motor is covered by an elegant steel metal case.
SNOW
Equipped with Bosch drive, wide fatbike tyres and XTR components, the SNOW is similar to the SAND, only that it is optimised for snow terrain. A protection cover made out of fur protects the battery against cold temperatures, to ensure long range. The fork comes as a lefty version, in order to create maximum tyre clearance during rides through sticky snow.

The SNOW can keep up against tough conditions with the help of fat tyres and fur.

The Lefty for maximum tyre clearance.
Whoever feels like riding an exclusive and special bike, that is very close to art, that person can find his luck in the luxurious M.A.S.S. collection. The ressources needed, could be a bit more than usual. The prices start from 7.000 EUR.
