It’s that time of year again as Spring is undoubtedly in the air. There's no other season quite like it, and no better time to get outdoors and on your bike. If you already know every trail at your local riding spot off by heart and are looking to do something more adventurous than a day trip, it's time for a trail ride or an overnighter in the wilderness! We've made a list of the hottest essentials for one or more nights at the lake or in the mountains. Spring, here we come!

MSR Gear PocketRocket Stove Kit

The PocketRocket by MSR Gear is the ideal companion for weekend trips or camping adventures for two. The compact set includes a 2-litre pot, 2 bowls, an insulated mug, cutlery and a gas burner. Everything fits into the pot, saving space and keeping all your things neatly organised. The included sporks can be folded up like Swiss army knives and work just well for slurping soup or forking vegetables. The lid has a straining port on one side, allowing you to pour off water when making pasta. The burner fits on 110 g threaded gas cartridges and brings a litre of water to the boil in just 3.5 minutes. With a capacity of 2 litres, the hard-anodised aluminium pot is big enough for two people and you don’t have to eat your food cold thanks to the WindClip, no matter how stormy things get.

Thanks to its tunnel shape, it can withstand wind speeds of up to 65 km/h and easily accommodate two tired riders with a floor width of 135 cm. It promises to cope well with temperatures as low as 1° C, providing a comfortable climate at around 6° C. As such, you’ll be well equipped for 3 seasons and survive unexpectedly cold summer nights without frostbitten toes. Tipping the scales at 850 g and packing down to 30 x 15 cm, the sleeping bag is super compact and easy to transport in its stuff sack. HÄNG

It keeps you comfortable and far away from creepy crawlies while sleeping under the open sky. With a maximum capacity of up to 200 kg, the Häng can carry more than most of the ebikes we’ve tested, easily letting two people hang out in it. With a weight of just 850 g and an ultra-small pack size, there’s no excuse to leave home without it. The best part? For each purchase of a We Häng hammock, two trees get planted. Aeroe Spider Rack

Arachnophobics stay tuned! The Aeroe Spider Rack has nothing to do with spiders and it’s got neither eight legs nor 24 eyes. It’s an aftermarket luggage rack with a maximum carrying capacity of 16 kg. What sets it apart is that it can also be mounted to a full-suspension bike and, when mounted correctly, just follows the movement of the rear wheel. The modern luggage rack gets attached to the bike with the help of four rubberised loops, which can be pulled tight with an Allen key. If it gets in the way of the saddle when the suspension compresses, you can simply attach the base plate to the side. You can even attach a second one to the opposite side if necessary or for reasons of symmetry and balance. Your luggage simply gets fastened via two adjustable straps. Now you can easily increase the storage space on your bike and look good doing so.

About the author

Julian Schwede

Juli is used to dealing with big rigs. Besides working on his bike, he also tinkered and worked on buses after completing his training as a vehicle mechatronics engineer. Since the development of large-scale electric motors was too slow for him, he went on to study technical business administration while building carbon fibre tables on the side. Though his DJ bike is welded from thick aluminium tubes, his full-susser is made of carbon and it's already taken him to the top of numerous summits. Apart from biking, he likes climbing via ferratas or vertically on the wall. Nowadays, his personal bike gets ridden less as he tests the bikes that get sent to us, pushing them to their limits to see what they're capable of. In addition to bike reviews, Juli also takes care of the daily news and thinks of himself as the Daily Planet reporter Clark Kent.
