Canyon FIX 3-in-1-Multitool – The all-rounder in a neoprene suit

The Canyon FIX 3-in-1 multi-tool combines three functions in one and comes rolled up in a practical neoprene bag. It’s not a classic multi-tool featuring a folding design, relying on a ratchet with interchangeable bits instead. Read our review to find out about the other functions and how they performed.

Canyon FIX 3-in-1 | 96 g | € 59,95 | Manufacturer’s website

Everyone knows those large tool rolls that most cars come with, or you see at the DIY store. Canyon took the concept and shrunk it down, providing a cleverly packaged multi-tool with a wide range of functions on par with that of most classic folding multi-tools on the market. We used the € 59.95 tool for three months, giving us ample opportunity to use and test all the functions on the occasional trailside repair.

The Torx T6 on the Canyon tool might let you change the batteries on your MoonSwatch, but we didn’t find a suitable bolt on our bikes.
Rolled up, the tool is compact and easy to carry in your pocket. Weighing in at just under 100 g, it won’t pull your pants down either.

The core of the FIX 3-in-1 tool is the ratchet, which works like any other ratchet you’ll have encountered before: insert the bit, set the direction to left or right to either loosen or tighten a bolt and get to work. The ratchet has a toggle to change the direction and 90 points of engagement, which is probably more than the freewheel of your grandmother’s bike. Of course, the matching bits are included in the set and are double-ended. The Allen bits range from 2 to 6 mm (incl. 2.5 mm), and you also get a Torx T6 and T25. We’re yet to find out exactly what the T6 should be useful for on a bike. Tip: if you don’t need the 2 mm Allen bit, just leave it at home and take a chain lock and extra tire plugs instead – you should still be able to tighten or loosen the most common types of bolts on your bike.

The double-ended bits can slip backwards out of the ratchet if you press too hard on it.

The ratchet can’t just loosen and tighten bolts, it comes apart in the middle to reveal a tire plug and a CO2 adapter. In the event of a puncture, you can plug the hole and refill the tire using a CO2 cartridge. The metal-tipped tire plugs don’t require “pre-drilling” and are supplied by the proven brand Dynaplug. Canyon include 4 of them with the tool. All you have to buy is a CO2 cartridge.

The chain lock isn’t included in the scope of delivery, but the neoprene bag is great for small items.
Lined up: CO2 cartridge pump and tire plug are cleverly housed in the handle of the ratchet.

The set has all the tools you need for a trailside repair. However, you must be careful not to lose any of the small bits on the trail. They’re safe in the neoprene bag, but you have to keep an eye on them during use. Since the bits are double-ended, they can simply slip through and fall out the back of the ratchet when you apply too much pressure. That said, the quality and feel of the tool make a very solid impression overall!

The Canyon FIX 3-in-1 is an unconventional multi-tool that manages to pack in all the functions of a classic multi-tool and more. Anyone who prefers to work with a ratchet and bits will love the FIX 3-in-1 tool. The tire plug and the CO2 adapter will let you fix a puncture, and the bits can tighten almost every bolt on your bike. Everything stays together in the practical neoprene bag, so you can just chuck it in your bag when you go out for a ride. We like it!
