Bafang

The Chinese brand Bafang – little known beyond trekking and city e-bikes – has been trading in the European e-bike market for 13 years now. For next year, there is an exciting new development, as they are extending their range to E-MTBs. The motor will come in two versions: the M500 with 250W for normal E-MTB’s up to 25 km/h and the M600 with 350W – mainly for the US market or S-pedelecs in Europe. The M500 is capable of delivering torque of up to 95 Nm and the M600 up to 120 Nm.

The dimensions are similarly compact as those of a Shimano E8000 and the motor weight at 3.2 kg is nearly the same too. Thanks to the design, manufacturers should be able to keep chainstay length below 450 mm. As a supplier of complete systems, there will be different options for displays, remotes, software and batteries depending on the manufacturer’s requirements. The presented intube battery happens to provide a solid 600 Wh. Which manufacturers will be installing the new motors isn’t being mentioned at the moment, but expect to see them on the market by the 2nd or 3rd quarter of next year.

As a supplier of complete systems, manufacturers have a wide choice of batteries and variants available to them. The shown InTube battery has 600 Wh.
The choice of display is also left to the manufacturers. Going by the look and feel of what was displayed, Bafang makes a high-quality impression.
