With the Oberrider, Thömus expands its portfolio not by one, but by two e-mountain bikes built around the Avinox Drive System. The Swiss manufacturer combines a newly developed carbon frame platform with one of the most powerful eMTB drive units currently available on the market. And that’s not all.
At the heart of the concept sits a modular carbon chassis offered in two configurations. The SL version (Superlight) features 150 mm of travel and is aimed squarely at dedicated trail riders. The ST version (Supertrail) ups the ante with 170 mm front and rear, positioning itself clearly in the hard-charging enduro segment. The versatility comes courtesy of an adjustable shock mount, which enables the different travel options within the same frame architecture. Integrated into both shock mounts is a progression flip chip, allowing riders to fine-tune the suspension curve to suit terrain, riding style – or simply how spicy they want their setup to feel that day.

Thömus equips the Oberrider with a high-pivot rear suspension layout designed to reduce pedal kickback and maximise traction when the trail turns hostile. Square edges, braking bumps, awkward compressions – the rear wheel is meant to move out of the way, not fight back. But the real story lies in the adjustability. Riders can choose between 27.5″ or 29″ rear wheels, with a flip chip in the chainstay compensating for geometry changes. Adjustable headset cups offer four distinct positions, allowing reach and head angle to be fine-tuned.
And then there’s something genuinely unique. Thömus allows the flex characteristics of the rear triangle to be tuned via a bridge between the seatstays. Yes, you read that right. By altering this brace, the stiffness – and therefore the feel – of the rear end can be adapted. It’s a level of chassis tuning we’ve rarely, if ever, seen on a production eMTB. For riders who obsess over ride feel, this is catnip.
Power comes from the Avinox Drive System, paired with a choice of either a 600 Wh or 800 Wh battery. Both options are fully integrated into the frame, positioned low to keep the centre of gravity in check and ensure balanced weight distribution on trail.
The Thömus Oberrider will be fully configurable via the brand’s in-house configurator – we’ve come to know well over the years. Riders choose every single component themselves: suspension, drivetrain, brakes, wheels, cockpit. Four standard colours are available, alongside a range of custom finishes for those who prefer their statement served in a more individual shade. In its lightest configuration, the Oberrider is claimed to dip below the 20 kg mark – an impressive figure given the power on tap and the platform’s adjustability. Each bike is assembled individually in Oberried near Bern, the name clearly hints at its place of origin.
The base version starts at 5,490 CHF, with deliveries scheduled from April 2026. Pre-orders are already open.
Thömus are known for not shying away from innovative concepts, and with the Oberrider the Swiss brand once again live up to that claim. A high-pivot debut, Avinox power and a platform that can be extensively adjusted in terms of travel, geometry and rear-end characteristics open up a new level within the Thömus universe. On paper, the key figures of the new Thömus Oberrider sound promising. Whether the technology delivers as a cohesive overall package on the trail will have to be proven in a real-world review.
