Thömus E1 Backpack
With the Thömus Lightrider E1, Swiss bike manufacturer Thömus not only created a high-end carbon eMTB, but also thought of a matching backpack (which gets manufactured by the backpack experts at Deuter). Based on the Deuter Compact EXP 16, it is equipped with a centrally positioned, padded battery compartment for transporting the Shimano E8020 battery. Besides the Shimano battery, Bosch batteries will fit just fine.
If required, the volume of the main compartment, which also contains an inner compartment for valuables, can be unzipped to increase the capacity by a further 3 litres. Beneath the flap of the large front pocket, you’ll find plenty of space for a multitool, pump, and repair kit. The light shoulder straps with their durable mesh structure hold the backpack firmly in place, and the Airstripes system should minimise sweating. The mesh hip straps with attached zip pockets for small things ensure a good fit, although they’re a little too narrow. As a result, the backpack moves around a little when riding at high speed.
A stowable helmet net, elastic outer pockets, and side compression straps for attaching your pads complete the overall concept. The most significant disadvantage, however, is the lack of a back protector, which means that the battery can press into your back in the event of a crash – a knock-out criterion for us.
Strengths
– excellent division of compartments
– volume can be increased by 3L if required
– good ventilation
Weaknesses
– hip belt too narrow
– no back protector
