AMPLIFi, the backpack and protector manufacturer based in Oberstdorf (Allgäu), launched the world’s first ebike-specific backpack, the AMPLIFI E-Track 23, in autumn 2016. The neoprene bag for the battery was developed for the then-common Bosch PowerPack, which has similar dimensions to the Shimano STEPS BT-E8010 battery. However, it is also suitable for the larger InTube batteries from Bosch and Shimano. Even longer batteries will fit into the battery pocket, but then the upper tab can’t be closed, and the battery is free to shift upwards. Your spine is protected by a generously dimensioned back protector from SAS-TEC. The remaining features leave almost nothing to be desired, and the compartment for the hydration bladder is located between the back protector and the battery compartment. The two open outer pockets are equipped with compression straps and are ideal for storing water bottles.
The large tool compartment is usefully divided with an extra holder for the pump. Apart from the neoprene battery bag, there is enough space in the main compartment for all utensils needed for a day trip and beyond. With a capacity of 23 litres, the AMPLIFI E-Track 23 is currently the biggest ebike backpack on the market. Other features include a separate padded compartment for your sunglasses above the tool compartment, a rain cover hidden in the bottom of the backpack (easily accessible from the outside), and a helmet carrying system. We also liked the two hip-belt pockets. The back padding represents a good compromise between good ventilation and close fit, so the backpack and the battery always stay put, even on demanding trails.
