EVOC, a Munich-based company known for its sports backpacks, bike bags, and protectors in the mountain bike sector, presented its first backpack specially developed for eMTBers, the FR TRAIL E-RIDE, at EUROBIKE in 2017. It is based on the proven FR TRAIL and features an additional stiff, padded compartment in the main compartment. It is large enough to accommodate InTube batteries in addition to standard external batteries. The battery compartment can easily be compressed to the width of the battery with a wide Velcro strap to secure it firmly in place. However, as with the other ebike backpacks, the strap on the battery compartment could be more flexible to accommodate different battery sizes. Also, the back protector could be a little longer for longer batteries.

Apart from that, EVOC has given a lot of thought to the details. The FR TRAIL E-RIDE is the only backpack with an extra strap for the battery charger. There’s also a key ring for the battery key which can be attached inside the backpack. The padded outer compartment for the removable display is a nice gimmick, but in times of ever-smaller displays, it’s mostly superfluous. Of course, the EVOC also has a separate compartment for a bladder and a rain cover. The tool compartment is sufficiently large. There is also a lined compartment for sunglasses, a pocket for your mobile phone, and a helmet holder.

The design of the back padding successfully balances the necessary proximity to the body and proper ventilation. The extra-wide, ergonomically-shaped hip belt, well-padded shoulder straps and chest strap ensure a firm fit in all riding situations – perfect!

The EVOC FR TRAIL E-RIDE delivers an excellent complete package, offering a very comfortable, secure fit, high-quality workmanship, and excellent integration of eMTB-specific features.
