New 2021 PRO KORYAK E-PERFORMANCE carbon cockpit with integrated Shimano STEPS display

Shimano’s sister brand PRO have announced the first fully-integrated bars-stem-grip-combination for Shimano displays. The new design lets you house an ebike display in your bars.

The KORYAK E-PERFORMANCE bars let you mount a Shimano STEPS display on, or rather in, the recess specially designed for the purpose, where it is both protected and always in your field of view, allowing to see your most important ride data clearly at all times.

The carbon construction and styling aren’t just intended to make routing cables internally easier but are also designed to offer a good balance between stiffness and comfort. The PRO KORYAK E-PERFORMANCE bars are 800 mm wide, making them well-suited to demanding terrain. The stem length is 65 mm while the rise of the bars sits at 20 mm. Backsweep is 11-degrees, which should reduce stress on hands. Unfortunately, there’s currently only one version of the one-piece cockpit available.

The bars are compatible with all current Shimano STEPS eMTB displays and even feature special grips that result in a seamless transition when fitted with a motor remote. The new eMTB cockpit is anticipated to be available from November 2020.

We don’t yet know which bike manufacturers will be using the new cockpit for their builds. At the very least, the press release images suggest that the YT Decoy (read our review here) will be one of the first eMTBs with the new E-PERFORMANCE cockpit.

Our verdict

The clean looks and internally routed cables, as well as the central positioning of Shimano ebike displays, speak definitively for the new PRO KORYAK E-PERFORMANCE carbon cockpit. Like all one-piece cockpits, you will have to accept some compromises in terms of fit, comfort and ultimately customisation to your personal requirements. As the PRO KORYAK E-PERFORMANCE cockpit will initially be available in just one size, the opportunity to find the perfect fit somewhat limited. If possible, you should test ride the cockpit beforehand to check whether it works for you. With sizing from bike to bike being so varied, it’s impossible to make a blanket statement here. Nonetheless, we’re excited for our first test ride with the new cockpit. One thing’s for sure: the new PRO KORYAK E-PERFORMANCE looks futuristic and has oodles of style! Official pricing has not yet been announced but the PRO KORYAK E-PERFORMANCE mountain bike cockpit will likely set you back around € 500.
