Moustache Samedi 27 Trail 6 Review
Moustache Samedi 27 Trail 6 | 23.40 kg | € 4,599

Moustache is a French brand fully convinced of the potential of ebikes. Just look at their portfolio: the only non-motorized bikes they offer are for children. The Samedi 27 Trail 6 proves this passion. Rather than be satisfied with standard components, Moustache developed their own shock, specifically designed to meet the demands and the weight of ebikes. For the drivetrain, they’re relying on a Shimano XT derailleur with a large 11-46 cassette.

By eMTBers for eMTBers – riding the Samedi Trail, you’ll notice that it was developed by eMTB enthusiasts.

The bike is powered by a Bosch Performance CX motor, which gets its electricity from a classic PowerPack (an external battery) tucked neatly in the down tube. Moustache specifically didn’t use the PowerTube battery because of its larger dimensions, and because it places the battery’s weight higher in the frame.

The Moustache Samedi 27 Trail 6 quickly shows that real eMTBers were at work here.

Integrated
Moustache hides the classic Bosch PowerPack under a cover of their own design in the downtube. This provides a low centre of gravity as well as a clean look. Also, there’s space in the front triangle for a water bottle.
Too weak
The MAGURA MT4 brakes lack power and reliability when descending. A larger brake rotor on the rear wheel brings some improvement, but it’s best to upgrade to an MT5.
Smart
Moustache combined a Shimano XT derailleur with a 11-46 cassette for a maximum gear range
Convenient
The sag indicator on the frame makes setup a lot easier. On top of that, the specially developed shock boasts massive amounts of traction and excellent feedback.
Neat and tidy
All cables are routed internally and don’t rattle inside the frame. The welds on the frame are smoothed out and give the bike a sleek, distinctive look.

The geometry of the Moustache Samedi 27 Trail 6

As soon as you get on the bike, it becomes clear that Moustache knows what eMTBers need. The seating position is spot on, super-comfortable and centrally located on the bike. The sag indicator on the frame makes setting up the shock a lot easier. The Samedi trail 6 climbs brilliantly. The rear linkage provides a lot of traction, doesn’t wallow, doesn’t bob under pedalling forces either! Thanks to the easily modulated eMTB mode, you can master even the trickiest climbs with confidence. Once the trail heads back down, the bike is no less convincing. The rear suspension sensitively filters out bumps while providing enough feedback for the rider to read the trail beneath him. The weight is very balanced between the wheels, and so the Moustache handles like a dream. No matter if in corners or on steep sections, the geometry is perfect! Unfortunately, the bike’s performance is held back by some individual components. The MAGURA MT4 brakes lack power, and the MAXXIS Recon+ tyres lack grip. The SR SUNTOUR AION suspension fork performs well overall, but cannot keep up with the best in the test field regarding response and damping, and on top of that, it makes annoying sucking noises.

Conclusion

The Moustache Samedi Trail 6 is the best eMTB with a Bosch motor for under €4,600! It convinces with many smart details and great handling, whether you’re going up or coming back down. Unfortunately, the bike’s performance is held back by some components. Those who can afford it should go for the more expensive Samedi Trail 8, which leaves nothing to be desired!
