Lupine SL X and C 14 2020 – more light for your e-bike
1,800 lumens, high beam, low beam, daytime running lights: the SL X is Lupine’s new, most powerful StVZO-approved headlight. Providing rear visibility, they’ve got the new Lupine C14. The best part: it’s integrated into the seat clamp for a sleek and clean look and making it theft-proof.
The only permanently mounted e-bike headlamp from Lupine, the SL F, now has a big brother. The new SL X also features automatic daytime running lights and low beam, as well as a high beam that you can switch on via remote control. Instead of 1,300 lumens, you’ve then got 1,800 lumens to illuminate the road and the trail – completely legal and StVZO approved. Since a lot of motor manufacturers are deciding against the use of a centrally mounted display, the SL X is only available with a universal, one-sided metal bracket for the handlebar. Of course, it is compatible with all other mounts from Lupine’s extensive range.
As usual, the Lupine SL X gets connected directly to the motor and will be available from the beginning of January 2020 for all the most common motor brands. In terms of price, the headlamp, including the remote and the bracket, will go for between € 300 and € 350 – the final price hasn’t yet been confirmed.
Lupine C 14 – hidden visibility
Lupine’s Rotlicht is an excellent taillight, but it isn’t permanently mounted and you can’t connect it directly to the e-bike battery. That’s why Lupine made the new C 14. The best part: it simply replaces your existing seat post clamp. The taillight gets connected directly to the motor and switches on via the existing e-bike system, but it can also be switched off directly on the housing in case you’re riding in a group. The light of the C 14 radiates at a 240° angle with an output of 45 lumens – that’s 5 lumens brighter than the Rotlicht. The availability and price of the Lupine C 14 haven’t been confirmed, but we can expect to see it reach the market within the next two or three months and it will go for around € 70–€ 85.
Other News – Piko update and new mounts
For those who prefer or like to ride with an additional helmet lamp, Lupine have given their ever-popular Piko a minor update. The latest version produces 1,900 lumens, with better thermal management and guarantees a minimum of 500 lumens even in the worst conditions. The new Piko now also has a small, diffused LED in the middle which should make close-range illumination (reading maps, putting up tents, etc.) a lot more pleasant. Both buttons, on the lamp itself and the remote control, have been redesigned to make them even easier to find/operate with gloves on. As a final update, the new Piko is now also compatible with the latest Lupine Light Control 2.0 app, which allows you to create different user profiles each with their own settings.
Lupine have also updated their range of mounts, now offering a GoPro mount and a bracket that can be used to replace one of the spacers under your stem.
