Haibike is by far the most popular eMTB brand. The ebike pioneer from Schweinfurt has given the XDURO Nduro an intensive facelift for the 2018 season. What’s new? And could the Haibike XDURO Nduro 10.0 convince us?

Haibike XDURO Nduro 10.0 Review

The Haibike XDURO Nduro was the first truly capable and aggressive eMTB and received the Design & Innovation Award in 2014. Since then it has continuously evolved and improved. For the 2018 season, it has gotten a facelift – with the Bosch PowerTube, the Nduro now has an integrated battery and a significantly cleaner silhouette. The geometry of the bike has been made much more progressive, and Haibike has also reworked the spec, making it more suitable for fun on the downhills. The XDURO Nduro features a RockShox Lyrik RC suspension fork with 180 mm travel, powerful MAGURA MT7 brakes with a single-finger brake lever, and grippy Schwalbe Magic Mary tyres with reinforced sidewalls. The SRAM EX1 drivetrain has a wide gear range, which is particularly nice for steep uphills. However, the large gear jumps are disruptive because you’re constantly having to pedal either faster or slower than you would like. As is expected of most mountain bikes these days, the Haibike has a dropper seat post and a comfortably wide handlebar (780 mm) for maximum control and safety. Particularly clever: thanks to the Modular Rail System, a water bottle can be mounted in the front triangle without any problems.

Das Haibike XDURO Nduro 10.0 auf dem Trail

The biggest strengths of the Haibike XDURO Nduro are how comfortable it is and the confidence-inspiring stability and composure of the bike. The bike rolls over obstacles with ease, hardly ever at its limit, forgiving all kinds of rider errors. Even on small impacts, the suspension goes through a lot of its travel and provides little feedback. Together with the long geometry, this means that the bike feels very cumbersome in its handling, and quick turns are only possible with a lot of physical effort. This is not a bike for active riders who are looking for something agile and playful.

The Haibike goes like a freight train, possessing absolute line confidence!

Climbs up forest service roads on this bike are a relaxing affair if you can ignore the noise of the motor and the pulley. However, once the terrain becomes steeper and more technical, the suspension absorbs a lot of energy, which means that you often ride with higher electric assist levels than on other eMTBs. This, in turn, costs battery life and range. All in all, the increased suspension travel offers fewer advantages than you might expect, making the AllMtn 150 mm travel model from the Haibike XDURO series the better choice for riders who value efficiency.

Comfortable
The rear end of the Haibike is designed for comfort. Playful riders will want more feedback.
Sophisticated
The integrated Bosch PowerTube battery gives the bike a slim silhouette. Also, a bottle cage can now be mounted in the frame.
Annyoing
The cables routed along the outside keep hitting the rocker arm in rough terrain, resulting in an annoying rattle.

Inefficient
Despite the pulley, the suspension of the Haibike saps a lot of energy. This means that you tend to ride it on a higher support level than with other eMTBs.

Conclusion

The strengths of the Haibike XDURO Nduro 10.0 are its high level of riding stability, composure, and good riding comfort. All this, however, comes at the cost of sluggish handling and low efficiency. From Haibike, we prefer riding the XDURO AllMtn.

Pros

– very stable and composed
– well-thought-out componentry
– Modular Rail System with bottle holder

Cons

– cumbersome
– not very efficient uphill
