Haibike are celebrating 10 years of E-performance – congratulations. The brand has been powering mountain bikes with electric motors for more than a decade and has been a pioneer in the eMTB sector since its inception. Cause enough for a lavish special edition Haibike AllMtn to mark the occasion. We present the brand new ebike to you

The AllMtn series is the poster child in ebike specialist Haibike’s portfolio and has been ever further refined over the course of the last few years. Last year, we took a close look at its latest iteration, in the form of the AllMtn 7 2021, and were impressed by its climbing abilities and good-natured handling. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Haibike’s eMTB history, the brand has used the same platform as the basis for a special edition build, which stands out with a special finish and high-end regalia.

Curtains up for the spectacle – The Haibike AllMtn Special Edition in detail

Titanium grey and black paired with golden accents. Haibike have pepped up the accomplished design of their established AllMtn series with a paint job that combines the brand’s confident presence with discreet understatement. What’s resulted is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The black and grey tones of the full carbon frames are interrupted by the golden accents, high-end Öhlins suspension, detailing on the seat stays and the gold chain of the SRAM AXS drivetrain.

It’s time to blow out the candles: Haibike inscribe their 10th anniversary on the top tube.
For the AllMtn special edition, Haibike rely on an inconspicuous, understated look, which is interrupted by golden colour accents. The combination works well.
Rock On: Die E-Bike-Party dauert bei Haibike bereits seit 10 Jahren an. Wir gratulieren!

The full carbon frame holds a powerful Yamaha PW-X2 motor which previously stood out in our motor group test with its direct handling. It is powered by an integrated battery with a capacity of 600 Wh. Thanks to the wireless shifting and dropper post, Haibike have further improved the already tidy cockpit of the AllMtn series. The cables for the rear brake and motor run cleanly into the front of the head tube and the only blemish from the rider’s perspective, like on the AllMtn 7, is the clunky and unergonomic Yamaha Display A. For the next anniversary, we hope that Haibike will be able to offer a prettier solution. That said, Haibike’s typical chainring, with its brushed aluminium spokes remains and continues to characterise the bike’s look. Behind it, you’ll find the prominently placed Yamaha motor, which blends into the silhouette well without being hidden in the frame.

The Yamaha PW-X2 delivers plenty of grunt. The gold-coloured washers provide further accents.
The clunky Yamaha Display A can’t match the high level of quality of the other components. At least our left thumb can be pleased about the ergonomic AXS remote, which replaces the awkward Haibike remote.
The few remaining cables enter into the front of the head tube. There’s no longer a cable port on the side.
The distinctive chainring with its brushed aluminium spokes draws attention. Instead of Haibike’s own components, Race Face Aeffect cranks do the pedalling on the Haibike AllMtn SE.

In front of the motor sits the battery cover, which is secured by a Böllhoff fastener and can be removed without tools. The charging port is found underneath, though if you want to remove the battery for charging, you’ll have to unlock it with a key. The battery can also be used to power lights, with the rear end of the bike equipped with a compatible fitting for the distinctive rear lights from Haibike’s Flyon series. The Modular Rail System, dubbed MRS, is also present on the down tube, letting you fit accessories like bottle cages or a tool kit.

The battery cover can be opened without tools, under which you’ll find the charging port. The battery itself is locked in place with a key to protect against theft.
The Multi Rail System lets you fit accessories like bottle cages or tools. Without anything attached, there are no bolts or clamps to disturb the Haibike’s clean silhouette.

The spec in detail

A strict dress code is in force for this anniversary edition from Haibike. That’s why the new AllMtn SE is clothed in only the best components that the bike industry offers. The high-end Öhlins suspension is tuned for trail performance and delivers 160 mm travel front and rear. Up front, an Öhlins RXF36 fork, which brawled it out in our sister magazine Enduro in a suspension fork group test, handles things. The similarly high-performing Öhlins TTX air shock is responsible for the rear. Together with 200 mm ICE TECH disc rotors and pads, Shimano XTR four-piston brakes ensure reliable stopping. Further highlights include the wireless SRAM XX1 Eagle AXS drivetrain and the RockShox Reverb AXS dropper post. The MAXXIS Minion DHF/DHRII tires combine a 29 x 2.5″ tire up front with a small but wide 27.5 x 2.8″ tire at the rear, ensuring masses of traction and allowing low air pressures. Unfortunately, the EXO and EXO+ casings front and rear respectively, combined with the lightweight and expensive DT Swiss HXC 1200 Carbon wheels are a little too delicate for those who like to ride low air pressures as well as aggressive or heavier riders, keeping more of an eye on the scales than all-out performance. If you want to prevent the carbon wheels from suffering any damage, you should mount more robust tires, for example, the same models in MAXXIS’ Doubledown casing. Race Face Aeffect cranks and the SixC carbon bar complete the exclusive component package though unsurprisingly, all those high-end parts come at a cost. You can take ownership of this ebike for € 10,000. € 1,000 for every year of eMTB history at the Haibike.

The cooling fins of the brake pads and 200 mm ICE TECH rotors ensure consistent braking for the Shimano XTR brakes.
Motor racing heritage: for the suspension, Haibike rely on suspension components from motorsport experts Öhlins.
Well equipped for challenging terrain: with 160 mm travel, the suspension offers enough reserves for the roughest terrain, if only it weren’t for the thin-walled tires.
Condemned to failure: the weaker EXO and EXO+ casings on lightweight carbon wheels from DT Swiss. If you want to avoid impacts to the rims, you won’t be able to experiment much with tire pressure.

Our first impressions of the Haibike AllMtn SE

Congratulations, the special anniversary edition of the Haibike AllMtn is a real looker, combining 10 years of E-performance with the best components. While the AllMtn 7 stands out with its stylish look and good value for money, the Haibike AllMtn SE distinguishes itself with an understated appearance and the best components. That means it ousts the Haibike AllMtn 7 from its top spot in Haibike’s E-performance portfolio – the king is dead, long live the king.

About the author

Rudolf Fischer

In his previous life Rudolf was a dab hand at promoting innovation, putting his brain behind big-ticket patent assessments that easily ran into six-or-seven-plus figures. These days, the self-confessed data nerd’s role as editor at DOWNTOWN and E-MOUNTAINBIKE is no less exciting. Given his specialism in connectivity, Rudolf’s often placed on the front line of future mobility conversations, but he’s also big into testing new bikes–both on the daily as a committed commuter and intensively for our group tests. The business economist graduate is as versatile as a Swiss penknife, and that’s no hyperbole. Away from two wheels, his background in parkour means he’s a master of front, side and backflips, plus he speaks German, English, French, Russian and a touch of Esperanto. Japanese remains woefully unmastered, despite his best home-learning attempts. Good to know: Rudolf’s sharp tongue has made him a figure of fear in the office, where he’s got a reputation for flexing a dry wittiness à la Ricky Gervais... interestingly, he's usually the one laughing hardest.
