After the Bosch initiative comes the Yamaha initiative at Haibike. Just as Yamaha and Bosch present their new systems, Haibike come around the corner with a range of new ebikes. We’ve taken a closer look at the NDURO 7 featuring the new Yamaha PW-X3 motor and relying on a 750 Wh battery.

Haibike is known for incorporating several motor manufacturers in its own e-bike portfolio. The article on Haibike’s new products with the new Bosch Performance Line CX Smart System can be found here.

The new Haibike NDURO 7 in detail

The Haibike NDURO is designed to tackle the roughest trails and technical descents. For 2022, it keeps Haibike’s signature look with angular lines and bright colours. However, the diameters of the tubes have shrunk and the aluminium frame is slightly less beefy than you’d expect from Haibike. The integrated Yamaha PW-X3 motor is all new. With a torque output of 85 Nm, it isn’t just more powerful. Yamaha have also worked on fine-tuning the motor power delivery while making it both smaller and lighter, giving manufacturers more freedom in bike design. You can find all the details about the new motor in our article on the Yamaha PW-X3 here. Along with the new drive unit comes the new InTube battery with a capacity of 750 Wh. The large battery is integrated into the down tube of all frames, from sizes S to XL. Haibike will also be offering an optional 360 Wh Range Extender, which gets attached to the down tube using their proprietary Modular Rail System, Haibike’s innovative solution for carrying water bottles and accessories. The minimalist Yamaha remote and Interface-X display are new too. The remote only uses three small buttons and is discreetly tucked between the grip and the brake lever. The display is mounted next to the stem and indicates the battery level and support mode via two colour LED bars. The new Haibike NDURO 7 will be available from 2022 for € 5,499.

The components of the new Haibike NDURO 7 in detail

With the NDURO 7, Haibike have prioritised trail-compatible components that offer good value for money. The FOX 38 Performance fork and Float X2 Performance shock offer 180 mm travel front and rear. The drivetrain is supplied by Shimano and is comprised of a SLX derailleur and shifter combined with a Shimano Deore cassette. The Magura MT7 four-piston brakes are paired with 200 mm rotors front and rear, offering plenty of stopping power. For the NDURO 7, Haibike have chosen to go with mixed wheel sizes, combining a 29″ wheel up front with 27.5″ wheel on the rear, both from Mavic’s E-Deemax range.

The front of the NDURO 7 rolls on a Schwalbe Magic Mary tire featuring the durable Super Gravity casing and grippy Ultra Soft rubber compound. This ensures plenty of grip and puncture protection. The Schwalbe Big Betty on the rear relies on the lighter Super Trail casing, though we would have liked a thicker version here too.
The FOX 38 Performance fork relies on the GRIP damper. It offers fewer adjustment options than the more expensive GRIP2 model.
The FOX Float X2 Performance shock controls 180 mm travel at the rear.

Further NDURO models and ebikes featuring the Yamaha PW-X3 motor

In addition to the NDURO 7, Haibike will also be offering further variants of their eMTB with the new Yamaha PW-X3 motor. The NDURO 8 FREERIDE is equipped with an Öhlins DH38 M.1 dual crown fork up front and an Öhlins TTX 22 M coil shock on the rear. It promises to be the perfect eMTB for riders looking for a capable downhill race rig and is expected to cost around € 6,499. The NDURO 6 is an entry-level offering in the NDURO range at Haibike and, compared to the NDURO 7, features a somewhat trimmed-down configuration solely with a 630 Wh battery. It’s also expected to hit the market by 2022 for € 5,499.

The new Haibike ADVENTR FS 10 with a Yamaha PW-X3 motor

For trekking riders, Haibike will be offering the new ADVENTR FS 10 trekking ebike from 2022. It relies on the same Yamaha PW-X3 motor as its more aggressive counterparts in the Haibike portfolio, but is designed for relaxed trekking and touring instead. The ADVENTR FS 10 platform offers 140 mm travel front and rear, and rolls on 29″ wheels. The integrated battery in the down tube offers a capacity of 750 Wh and thanks to the Range Extender it can be further expanded by additional 360 Wh. As with their other bikes, the Range Extender gets attached to the down tube via the Modular Rail System, Haibike’s clever system for attaching accessories. The ADVENTR FS 10 is equipped with a Litemove AE-130 headlight and ADVENTR taillight for riding in the dark and aluminium Curana Apollo mudguards to help keep you dry in wet weather. A rear rack and a kickstand are also part of the stock build. The Haibike ADVENTR 10 FS will be available from your Haibike dealer next year for presumably € 5,499.

Our take on the 2022 Haibike portfolio

Haibike is taking full advantage of the new freedoms offered by the Yamaha PW-X3 motor and have integrated it seamlessly into the e-bikes for 2022. The other innovations such as the larger battery, the new Yamaha Interface-X display and the minimalist handlebar remote also find their way into the Haibike models. Although you still have to wait until next year for the new eMTBs to be delivered, we will tell you whether the all-round renewal has been a success as soon as the first test bikes have arrived.

About the author

Rudolf Fischer

In his previous life Rudolf was a dab hand at promoting innovation, putting his brain behind big-ticket patent assessments that easily ran into six-or-seven-plus figures. These days, the self-confessed data nerd’s role as editor at DOWNTOWN and E-MOUNTAINBIKE is no less exciting. Given his specialism in connectivity, Rudolf’s often placed on the front line of future mobility conversations, but he’s also big into testing new bikes–both on the daily as a committed commuter and intensively for our group tests. The business economist graduate is as versatile as a Swiss penknife, and that’s no hyperbole. Away from two wheels, his background in parkour means he’s a master of front, side and backflips, plus he speaks German, English, French, Russian and a touch of Esperanto. Japanese remains woefully unmastered, despite his best home-learning attempts. Good to know: Rudolf’s sharp tongue has made him a figure of fear in the office, where he’s got a reputation for flexing a dry wittiness à la Ricky Gervais... interestingly, he's usually the one laughing hardest.
