As part of the massive PON group, German manufacturer FOCUS enters our 2025 E-MOUNTAINBIKE comparison test with their eMTB allrounder, FOCUS JAM² 6.0. Its mission is to deliver maximum versatility and offer a suitable option for a wide range of rider types and situations. FOCUS’ development team didn’t just focus on the tech specs but gave the bike’s design some serious love too. As a result, the new JAM² looks far sleeker, more modern, and more refined than its predecessor. Thanks to a modular battery concept, you can tailor the capacity to suit your needs, and if you prefer charging the battery in your living room rather than in the garage, the removable battery will make your life a lot easier. At 24.8 kg in size L, the JAM² is around one kilogram heavier than average in this test field, but it makes up for it with a tempting €7,999 price tag– roughly €1,500 below the average. But can FOCUS’ eMTB allrounder prove itself on the trails of Finale Ligure?

What sets the FOCUS JAM² 6.0 apart from the competition?
The FOCUS JAM² 6.0 boasts a clean, streamlined frame silhouette, with the shock flowing seamlessly into the top tube and seat stays. The welds around the head tube are especially well-finished, ensuring a premium look. It’s only when you take a closer look at the bottom bracket and rear triangle that you can tell the JAM² 6 is made of aluminium. The fifth-generation Bosch Performance Line CX motor is neatly integrated into the bottom bracket area – compact and unobtrusive, without drawing unnecessary attention. With 85 Nm of torque and up to 600 watts peak power, it delivers strong yet well-modulated assistance. The motor draws its power from a removable battery in the downtube, which is available in both 600 Wh and 800 Wh versions – whereby the latter is optional. Our test bike comes equipped with the 600 Wh variant. Removing the battery is pretty easy: pop off the cover, unlock the battery, and slide it out – you might want to turn the bike onto its side to make things easier. A clever little detail: there’s an integrated mount beneath the battery for an AirTag or Chipolo tracker, discreetly tucked away inside the frame. If you prefer to charge the battery directly on the bike, you can use the charging port on the seat tube. This is easy to access and well-protected from dirt and moisture by a snug-fitting cover. With the standard 4-amp charger, the 600 Wh battery takes a whopping 277 minutes to charge – which translates to a charging rate of just 2.4 Wh/min, and makes it one of the slowest-charging bikes in the entire test field.

The Bosch Kiox 300 display is neatly tucked away next to the stem, where it’s well protected against impacts and easy to read. It shows all basic ride data and also features a simple, built-in navigation function. One visual mismatch, however, is the outdated-looking LED Remote on the handlebars, which feels bulky and doesn’t quite match the bike’s overall sleek, organic design language. As usual with Bosch systems, the eBike Flow app allows you to fine-tune the support modes, adjusting parameters like dynamics, torque, and assistance levels. It also offers optional paid upgrades like eBike Lock and eBike Alarm for added security.

The JAM² 6.0 also shines when it comes to thoughtful details: a large chainstay protector effectively prevents chain slap – even on rough trails – ensuring a quiet ride. Just as welcome is the clean, streamlined look created by FOCUS’s One Piece SL cockpit, which routes all cables neatly through the headset and directly into the frame. While this ensures a very clean cockpit, it also makes it harder to service the bike. The integrated cockpit also limits the adjustability options, meaning that you might be better off swapping it with a conventional bar-and-stem combo if you prefer more setup options. A practical highlight is the small frame bag tucked into the main frame – perfect for carrying a spare tube, multitool and other trail essentials. Nice touch!

For the suspension, FOCUS rely on RockShox components, combining a 160mm mm Lyrik Ultimate fork with Charger 3.1 damper, and a 150mm Super Deluxe Select+ shock. Both deliver strong trail performance and offer countless adjustment options – without overwhelming inexperienced riders with a million settings. Canadian manufacturer OneUp supplies the V3 dropper post, which, at 180 mm, offers decent – but not exceptional – freedom of movement on the trail. SRAM CODE Silver four-piston brakes with 200 mm rotors do stopping duties. While this setup delivers decent deceleration per se, a bit more bite wouldn’t hurt in super steep terrain. Shifting is taken care of by a SRAM GX Eagle AXS Transmission drivetrain, which relies on a direct-mount rear derailleur, and delivers precise, reliable gear shifts, even under load. The JAM² 6.0 rolls on a robust 29″ DT Swiss HX 1700 alloy wheelset and Schwalbe Albert tires in the Super Trail casings, with the grippy Ultra Soft rubber compound at the front, and the harder Soft compound – a great compromise between traction and durability. If you spend lots of time in seriously rough terrain, it may be worth upgrading to a Super Gravity casing in the rear for added toughness.

The FOCUS JAM² 6.0 on the trail
From the very first pedal stroke, the FOCUS JAM² 6.0 makes one thing clear: comfort is king. The upright pedalling position takes pressure off the hands and distributes the weight evenly across the bike. In combination with the supple suspension, this makes the JAM² 6.0 one of the most comfortable bikes in the entire test field. Alongside the SCOTT Patron, the FOCUS is the best option for long climbs and fire road cruising. On technical climbs, the JAM² 6.0 proves itself to be a confident and capable climber. The front wheel remains planted on the ground even on steep ramps, while the sensitive rear suspension delivers excellent traction – working in perfect harmony with the wide 2.6″ Schwalbe Albert tires, which bite confidently into the terrain. The Bosch Performance Line CX motor supplies just the right amount of power, delivering strong and steady support exactly when you need it. While the JAM² can’t quite match the uphill prowess of the AMFLOW PL Pro, Specialized Levo, or Moustache Game, it still holds its own on technical climbs – performing on par with bikes like the Transition Repeater CX and Haibike HYBE.
Performance over bling! The FOCUS JAM² 6.0 impresses with honest trail performance and a well-rounded package at a fair price.

When the trail turns downhill, the FOCUS JAM² 6.0 integrates you deeply and securely into the frame, with the high front-end inspiring huge amounts of confidence. With its predictable, intuitive handling, the JAM² makes you feel at ease from the get go, proving an excellent match for newbies and inexperienced riders. The JAM² drops into berms willingly, feels agile, and brings a playful vibe to flowy terrain. Steering input is translated directly and precisely, while the suspension is firm enough to let you pump through rollers and carry speed out of berms. Pick up the pace and charge into rock gardens, and the JAM² holds its line with impressive composure, ploughing its way through rough sections with excellent stability and always staying in control. The suspension soaks up hits without batting an eyelid, and offers plenty of reserves for bigger impacts – and is forgiving of riding mistakes too! The relatively high system weight actually works in its favor, ensuring a planted, confidence-inspiring feel on rowdy trails. However, if you want to collect air miles, you’ll have to put in a bit more effort. The JAM² prefers to stay with the rubber on the ground, charging through rock gardens with plenty of traction rather than flying over them. As a result, it doesn’t quite match the gravity-hungry character of bruisers like the Specialized Levo or YT DECOY SN, which combine high-speed stability with airtime potential. The only real downside? The brakes. While the SRAM CODE Silver model performs well overall, it could use a bit more bite in extreme situations – particularly on long, steep descents.
If you’re after comfort, control, and solid trail chops, the JAM² delivers – an all-rounder through and through.

Conclusions about the FOCUS JAM² 6.0
The FOCUS JAM² 6.0 might not be the cheapest bike in this group test – but it’s hands down the smartest choice for your money. The result? An eMTB that shines both up and downhill, with intuitive handling and a versatile character that speaks to beginners and seasoned trail riders alike. Build quality in the aluminium segment is top-notch, and while the brakes reach their limits on seriously steep descents a little too soon, that’s a compromise many will gladly accept.
