For 2023, CUBE are introducing a completely revised and partly new portfolio of Stereo ONE models. Among them is their new eMTB, the 150 mm travel Stereo Hybrid ONE55 relying on a Bosch CX Smart System motor. It promises to deliver with a relatively low weight and prices starting from € 6,999. We’ve got all the details.

The CUBE Stereo Hybrid ONE55 is a new member of the Stereo ONE family, incorporated into the CUBE product portfolio for 2023. German brand CUBE describe their new eMTB as “enduro capable”. A bike for agile riding, long days, and varying conditions – it certainly sounds versatile. The carbon frame features a stylish design and is said to weigh 20% less than the CUBE Stereo Hybrid 140.

The boys and girls at CUBE place a premium on design

With 160 mm travel up front and 150 mm at the rear, it slots in right between the existing Stereo Hybrid 140 and Stereo Hybrid 160, and it should cut a fine figure on singletrack as well as rough descents. There are 3 build options to choose from. They range in price from € 6,999 for the entry-level model to € 9,999 for the top spec, and they all come equipped with the tried and trusted Bosch CX Smart System motor. As a bonus, CUBE said they will be offering an adapter with which the new Bosch PowerTube 500 and PowerTube 625 batteries can be used instead of the standard 750 Wh model. As far as the actual removing or swapping out of the battery is concerned, we can’t yet say anything other than that you will access it via the underside of the down tube. Hopefully this isn’t bad news for CUBE fans with racing ambitions, but there’s no mention of a variant with the new Bosch CX Race motor. To give the bike a sporty and clean look, all the variants of the ONE55 come equipped with the new Bosch System Controller and Mini Remote, allowing them to dispense with the somewhat chunky Bosch LED remote and Kiox 300 display.

The new Bosch System Controller is integrated into the top tube.
The Bosch Mini Remote is attached to the handlebar.

The Stereo Hybrid ONE55 C:68X TM 750 for € 7,999 could be described as the shredder variant. It’s robust and offers enough reserves for big hits, though it weighs a few grams more. The bike is 300 g heavier than the SLX build, to be precise, coming in at 22.9 kg according to the manufacturer. A portion of this weight is made up of a FOX 38 FLOAT Factory FIT GRIP2 fork and FOX FLOAT X2 Factory shock.

There’s enough room in the front triangle to accommodate a water bottle along with the beefy X2 shock.

Attention weight weenies, the Stereo Hybrid ONE55 C:68X SLT 750 build variant is the most expensive at € 9,999, but it’s said to weigh just 21.9 kg. That’s not much for an ebike of this class. The FOX 36 FLOAT Factory FIT GRIP2 is somewhat lighter than the 38 FLOAT due to the skinnier stanchions, which also makes it less stiff. For the shock, CUBE rely on a FOX FLOAT X Factory model. You also get a carbon handlebar and a NEWMEN Advanced SL A.30 wheelset as part of this build. We think of it as the build for trail riders who want the maximum in agility, and have a big enough budget 😉

The FOX FLOAT X Factory shock – light, small, and fancy.

A square or a bicycle – The geometry of the CUBE stereo hybrid ONE55

If you’re looking for a middle ground between the Stereo Hybrid 140 and 160 in terms of geometry and looking at the CUBE Stereo Hybrid ONE55, you’ll have to look elsewhere. In line with the trend of ever longer eMTBs, the new Hybrid ONE55 has an even longer wheelbase than the current Hybrid 160. While the wheelbase of the size L Hybrid 160 measures 1,256 mm, the Hybrid ONE55 is already at 1,263 mm, at least in low setting. Thanks to the flip chip, however, the wheelbase can be shortened to 1,255 mm for more agility on the trail in the high setting. The reach is now almost on par with current mountain bike trends, too, at 472 mm and 474 mm in the low and high setting, respectively. To give you more freedom of movement on the bike, the seat tube has been shortened by 15 mm compared to the Hybrid 140, measuring to 420 mm. CUBE have set themselves the goal of making their geometries significantly more progressive than before. There’s also talk of an optimised wheel path, which is the curve of the rear axle as the suspension cycles through its travel. Whether and how noticeable this is can only be said once we’ve put the bike to the test. One shortcoming must still be mentioned: The bike is only available in sizes M, L and XL.

Size M L XL

Our conclusion on the CUBE Stereo Hybrid ONE55

On paper, CUBE have ticked a lot of the right boxes with the new Stereo Hybrid ONE55, boasting impressive specs. We’re especially curious about the three different battery size options. We don’t want to stick our heads too far out the window before we’ve put it to the test, but it has the potential to be an excellent all-rounder! Considering the relatively affordable price and well-specced components, the Hybrid ONE55 SLX and ONE55 TM should offer good value for money.
