Not a production bike yet, but already generating plenty of discussion: at EUROBIKE 2026, Canyon are presenting their first eMTB with an Avinox drive system while also showcasing a prototype featuring the new Avinox MG Concept E-CVT gearbox motor. Many details remain under wraps, but the direction the Koblenz-based brand are heading is already becoming clear.

Now Canyon have joined the party. To mark the start of EUROBIKE 2026, Canyon are unveiling their first eMTB with an Avinox drive system. Based on the Spectral platform, the bike is designed for trail riding and features 160 mm of travel up front and 150 mm at the rear. A flip chip allows the bike to be ridden either as a full 29er or in a mullet configuration.

Power comes from the Avinox M2S drive system paired with a 700 Wh battery. This setup delivers up to 150 Nm of torque and 1,500 W peak power. The slim, round battery remains hidden thanks to Canyon’s signature design language with its angular down tube. Overall, the bike has a clean and harmonious appearance.

According to Canyon, the new Spectral:ON is expected to be available in September 2026.

Canyon Strive Prototype with Avinox MG Concept E-CVT Motor

At the same time, Canyon are offering a first glimpse into the future of their eMTB portfolio. The brand are showing a 3D-printed prototype of a new eMTB clearly aimed at enduro riding. The most striking feature is that the concept bike completely does away with a conventional rear derailleur and instead relies on the new Avinox MG drive system, which is intended to combine motor and gearbox into a single unit. Canyon have not yet released any technical details, but the prototype clearly demonstrates where development could be heading. You can find more about the Avinox MG Concept here.

Until now, E-CVT gearbox motors have still felt somewhat like a vision of the future, but that vision could soon become rideable reality. We estimate a timeframe of one to two years. If that happens, they could put significant pressure on SRAM and Shimano in the eMTB segment. Once E-CVT gearbox motors become established, you are likely to see far fewer conventional drivetrains on eMTBs. This prototype also provides clear evidence that brands such as Canyon strongly believe the Avinox MG E-CVT gearbox motor can deliver genuinely trail-ready performance.

What Canyon are showing here definitely leaves us wanting more. Many questions remain unanswered, but the direction is exciting. We are looking forward to the first test rides and, of course, will keep you updated!
