Brand New: Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon – E-MTB goodness from Spain

It feels somewhat naughty to display the Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon on our website; after all, there’s no parental control for underage visitors and this bike is definitely a looker. But flaunting some serious Spanish flair, we just couldn’t keep this E-MTB off your screens with its stunning design, high-end carbon frame and Shimano Steps motor. But careful: don’t let your boss catch you checking out this beauty.

We reckon the Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon gets a 10/10 for looks with its distinctive full-carbon frame.

The Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon & the frame

The frame is fundamental to any bike, and we’re stoked to see the e-Crusher wielding a stunning full-carbon frame with many of the classic Mondraker design cues that the Spanish brand have borrowed from their non-motorised models. At the rear the e-Crusher Carbon relies on 150 mm travel with Mondraker’s floating pivot Zero Suspension system that’s compressed on both sides. The bike is fuelled by a Shimano STEPS E8000 motor with an integrated 500 Wh battery, which can be removed and recharged either on or off the bike.

This triangular cutout behind the headtube has now become something of a Mondraker trademark and even appears on the Mondraker e-Crusher. Are there no limits to carbon creations?
The ZERO rear end design has 150 mm travel and is controlled by a Trunnion-mounted rear shock.

The Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon is intended for use with 2.8″-wide 27.5+ tires. The cables are internally routed, which elevates its slick, linear-looking visual. There are large protectors on the downtube and chainstays to safeguard the bike from trail debris. Despite what the carbon frame and lightweight Shimano STEPS E8000 motor system might lead you to believe, the e-Crusher tips the scales at quite a notable 22.2 kg (manufacturer’s stats), although weight is never the decisive factor when it comes to E-MTBs.

The downtube-mounted battery can be taken out from the underside.
The motor is bolted directly onto the carbon frame. According the Mondraker, the compact form of this Shimano motor enabled them to design the e-Crusher with superbly located bearings and optimal geometry.
This integrated mini-mudguard protects the rear shock from mud and flying dirt.

The Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon & its geometry

The e-Crusher wouldn’t be a Mondraker if it didn’t feature the Spanish brand’s own Forward Geometry concept, which relies on a longer frame (486 mm reach for the size L) that lends smoothness to the bike teamed with a short 450 mm rear end to deliver the requisite agility. On the brand’s conventional mountain bikes, this geometry concept has been met with searing approval by race-tuned riders. A steep 74.5° seat angle keeps the position angled well away from the back wheel. Here’s the run-down of the Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon, which is available in four sizes:

The Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon & its spec

Besides from the four available sizes, there are two build specs to choose from. The top-of-the-range Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon RR+ retails at € 8,999 and comes with superb FOX Factory suspension, Shimano XT Di2 shifters and powerful Shimano Saint brakes. Mondraker went for grippy Maxxis Minion DHF tires on the brand new Mavic E-XA-Elite+ wheels. There’s also an ENVE wheelset-equipped version for € 10,499.
The Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon R+ is the more affordable option although it retains a similar high-end stance. Retailing at € 6,599, the R+ has RockShox suspension with a Yari fork and Super Deluxe rear shock, SRAM Guide RE brakes and regular Shimano XT shifters.

Shimano XT shifters and a SunRace 11-46t cassette should lend sufficient gear range to the e-Crusher R+ and competent shifting.
The Crusher has decently wide bars, and a super short 30 mm stem that channels Mondraker’s Forward Geometry concept to guarantee direct and steady handling.
Given the importance of powerful brakes on E-MTBs it’s good to see that Mondraker have kitted the Crusher R+ with Guide RE brakes.
The Shimano STEPS E8000 motor is still at the top of the display game.

Our thoughts on the Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon

The brand new Mondraker e-Crusher Carbon is enough to make us stop in our steps even while stationary. Channelling a definitive Mondraker design, the e-Crusher Carbon has one of those can’t-take-our-eyes-off-it looks. This great first impression is confirmed by its spec, which looks thoroughly well considered on paper. The advantages of Forward Geometry are a dead cert for dynamic riders, but it’ll be interesting to see how this translates into long-term E-MTBing fun. Stay tuned for an in-depth test review!
