What’s new in the 2021 range?

You want to set off on your ebike and not be limited to two panniers with a maximum of 10 kg each, but also want to hook a trailer for your kids, adding another 15 and 20 kg? The maximum permissible weight rating should no longer stop you from doing so with Kalkhoffs new Plus series. The Endeavor, Entice and Image 5 models will all be available in a Plus edition giving you a maximum permissible weight rating of up to 170 kg. That should be enough for most!

… and without luggage

With raised handlebars, upright step-through geometry, suspended seat posts and the new 85 Nm Bosch Performance CX motor, Kalkhoff’s 2021 range promises to be more comfortable than ever.

The 2021 Kalkhoff Entice

Of course, we’re most interested in the Kalkhoff Entice 5+, which we reviewed previously in our big step-through eMTB group test at the beginning of the summer. Our points of critique back then were the bike’s handling with a heavy payload, low maximum permissible weight, lack of comfort and the lack of a chain guard. We’re pleased that Kalkhoff have responded to our feedback and at least the first three points have been addressed with the update. The stiffer frame needed for the increased maximum permissible weight should also lead to more stable handling that is less affected by heavy payloads. The wide 29″ wheels promise to offer more comfort and off-road grip.

The flagship Entice 5.B Advance+ comes with a Bosch Intuvia display instead of the Purion
The Suntour MOBIE25 Air fork can be locked out and should be comfortable and capable enough for off-road terrain together with the 57 mm MAXXIS Rekon Race tires
The Bosch Performance CX motor is beautifully integrated into the frame and adequately cooled thanks to the honeycomb cover

The Entice 5.B will be available in three models for the coming season, all featuring the new Bosch Performance CX motor and three different frames, the Diamond, Trapezoid and Wave. The entry level model is the Entice 5.B Season with the previous frame, a maximum permissible weight of 130 kg, budget 9-speed drivetrain and 500 Wh battery for € 3,199. For € 500 more, the Entice 5.B Move+ gives you a maximum permissible weight of 170 kg, a 10-speed drivetrain and a large 625 Wh battery. The flagship Entice 5.B Advance+ is priced at € 3,899, featuring a 12-speed Shimano SLX drivetrain and knobby mountain bike tires for improved off-road capabilities.
