Yamaha-Motor, Pike-fork and an automatic e:i Shock suspension system. The machine which Haibike are offering with their SDURO AllMtn Pro looks extremely interesting – at least on paper! We wanted to know however how the SDURO rides on the trails and have already had a few rides to get our first impressions.

Haibike’s 2015 SDURO-range aims to attract younger riders with more attractive prices and well thought out specs. Our test bike the SDURO AllMtn Pro is the highest variant in the new line up.

For the brakes and 2×10 drivetrain Haibike relies on the complete and proven Shimano XT components. The fork is a RockShox Pike Dual Position model with 120/150mm travel. These have already convinced us on many test rides and as expected performed admirably on the SDURO. It gets more exciting with the automatic rear shock adjustment system e:i Shock!
This measures current speed, pedalling frequency and terrain characteristics and controls the rear shock accordingly within three settings.

On the AllMtn Pro the e:i Shock is integrated in the drive system so uses the electronics, battery and data already acquired by the motor. In this way Haibike have been able to dramatically increase the reaction time of the rear shock to the current conditions.

Haibike fits the SDURO-models with the 250 W Yamaha centre motor. In our eyes a great choice as with its higher frequency it generates a torque of 70 Nm and is thus more powerful than other commonly used motors like the Bosch Performance with 50 Nm.

On the trail you can feel the higher torque of the Yamaha drive straight away. The motor strongly supports the rider even at low speeds. In addition with “Zero Cadence-Support” the motor cuts in very quickly when pedalling starts. In combination this means you can tackle steeper and more technical climbs than with the drives offered by other manufacturers.

The e:i Shock also functions perfectly. If for example we roll over a root section without pedalling the shock responds immediately and is very plush. Just afterwards a quick pedal is enough to re-activate the e:i Shock into closed mode (or depending on the terrain half open) allowing more efficient pedalling. If required the shock adjustment can also be fixed to any setting.

The geometry of the SDRUO can’t quite keep up with the convincing spec. Whilst 150mm travel, the Pike fork, the e:i Shock and powerful Yamaha motor speak for an aggressive-sporty riding style the riding position is more like that of a comfort orientated all-round bike. At 68° the head tube angle is relatively steep for a bike of this class, the high front end and short top tube require an experienced pilot to manage a fast-dynamic trail riding style.

Others will struggle to get enough weight over the front wheel on fast corners. On steep, rough descents the bike feels a bit unstable due to its high centre of gravity. On the other hand the short and upright geometry offers occasional riders a confident feel and allows long, less extreme rides with decreased fatigue.

The suspension offers enough reserves to tackle bigger obstacles
Um das Bike auch auf anspruchsvollen Abfahrten sportlich bewegen zu können, braucht es etwas Nachdruck
In order to ride the bike fast on demanding descents you need to apply more pressure

Conclusion:
The Haibike SDURO AllMtn Pro shines with an interesting, well thought out spec. The powerful Yamaha-drive and quick, accurate e:i Shock system completely convinced us.
Regarding the geometry we’d recommend a good test ride off-road. If you’re used to modern enduros you might find the AllMtn a bit stilted. For beginners, occasional or all-round riders the upright, confidence inspiring riding position might be just right.
