Shimano E-TUBE-Update Announced – Adjustable Support Level This Summer

When the brand new SCOTT E-Genius was presented, Shimano gave us a sneak preview of an exciting update: from August it will be possible to customise the support levels of the Shimano STEPS E8000 motor to our liking, using the already existing E-TUBE-App.

Exact details for the E-TUBE-App are still safely kept inside the Shimano headquarters. But one thing is for sure: it will be possible to customise the levels of support on the STEPS E8000 motor. To give you a few examples, it will be possible to make the Trail-Mode either more energy- efficient or more powerful, or to vary the BOOST settings to one’s liking. However, Shimano is not disclosing any details just yet. Possibly the much discussed 25 km/h motor-decoupling has been addressed and improved, but Shimano won’t comment on this specific topic.

The popular Shimano E-TUBE-App already allows to configure some of the functions on the Shimano STEPS-motor and Shimano Di2- group-set. A new exciting update has been announced for August.

Customisation will be simple and performed via a smartphone or a tablet, from the sofa or even on the trail. All we have to do is activate the Bluetooth-function from the handlebar-display and connect to the App. Job done!

It is already possible to configure STEPS motors from the E-TUBE-App. You can (dis)activate the beeping mode, configure the button-layout or change the type of distance units in use. Coupled with an electronic Di2- groupset, the E-TUBE App allows you to set the shifting speed and the number of gear-steps.

We’re actually very excited to see what the update will include; we will keep you posted and inform as soon as we get some news.
