Moustache bikes are based in the Vosges region of France and know a thing or two about fusing performance with style. Their new Hidden Power project takes the high performance Samedi platform and integrates the battery inside the frame to produce an achingly beautiful E-MTB range.
Integrating an E-MTB battery is not easy, and there are plenty of clumsy attempts on the market, but Moustache’s new ‘Hidden Power’ project achieves it with elegance. The carbon models are very well designed, but Moustache have to be commended for their achievement in integration in aluminium too, a process that has pushed hydroforming technology to its absolute limit. Not only do the bikes look better, but moving the battery lower into the frame improves the centre of gravity, keeping it low for aggressive dynamic riding. We take a look at the new Samedi Race and Trail range at EUROBIKE.
The ‘New Hidden Power’ 160 mm Samedi 27 Race Series
The Samedi 27 range is split into two categories, the 140 mm ‘Trail’ option and the 160 mm ‘Race’. All models pack the power of the Bosch Performance CX powerplant and Intuvia display.
There are three model specifications for the Samedi 27 Race, the 6, 8 and 9. The 6 and 8 models are both manufactured from 6061 aluminium, and the top of the line Samedi 27 Race 9 is created from Toray T700 carbon fibre. We checked out a Samedi 27 Race 9 at EUROBIKE.
The new 21.5 kg Samedi 27 Race 9 is a masterpiece in carbon, shaving 890 g from the weight and bringing the new Boost standard (wider) axles, resulting in a stiffer, more powerful frame. The ‘Hidden Power’ concept integrates the battery neatly into the frame, reducing the centre of gravity and improving the overall aesthetics of the frame. The potent E-MTB boasts a burly FOX 36 Float Performance Fork and Rock Shox RC3 Debon air shock, with a SRAM X01 drivetrain and the latest SRAM Guide RE brakes. The bike runs on Moustaches new double walled 35 mm internal rims shod with Maxxis Rekon 27.5 EXO protection 2.8 tires. The geometry is aggressive and perfect for conquering technical trails, with a 66.5 degree head angle and 465 mm chainstays, the Samedi 27 Race 9 is ready to rock and roll with the best enduro bikes, we hope it rides as good as it looks.
The New ‘Hidden Power’ 140 mm Samedi 27 Trail Series
In the 140 mm sector, Moustache have reworked their popular Samedi 27 Trail models too, which now feature the same Hidden Power concept and also feature 27.5+ tires running on Moustaches own brand rims. There are four Trail models in the lineup, the aluminium 6 and 8, and the top specification Trail 9 and Trail Limited models which are both engineered in carbon. All feature the same Bosch Performance CX motor with a 500 Wh integrated battery and Intuvia display. All the 140 mm bikes feature Moustache’s own custom rear shock, designed to work in harmony with the rear linkage and with a 2 position platform adjustment for climb/descend efficiency.
We checked out the 22.7 kg entry level Moustache Samedi 27 Trail 6, to see what you can now buy for € 4,399. The aluminium E-MTB features the same tidy battery integration and comes with a Suntour Aion 35 RL fork. A full SRAM NX drivetrain handles the shifting and reliable Magura MT4 brakes keep the speed in check. The bike runs on Moustaches new double walled 35 mm internal rims shod with Maxxis Rekon 27.5 EXO protection 2.8 tires. With a 67.6 degree head angle and 465 mm chainstays, the Samedi 27 Trail should be agile and entertaining on flowing trails.
Both the new 160 mm Race and 140 mm Trail bikes from Moustache look incredible with their new ‘Hidden Power’ silhouette and sensible build kits. We look forward to testing them soon to see if they ride as well as they look.
