First Look | ROSE E-MTB prototype spotted
Despite being still unnamed and quite frankly still in the womb, we’re now in a position to reveal what this E-MTB is set to look like. Hailing from ROSE, the Bocholt-based direct order company, this marks their first E-MTB, and has been developed alongside the motor specialists Continental.
Expect to see the very first e-mountain bike from ROSE hit the shops in spring 2016 at the latest. It’s a hardtail with 120mm travel, 27.5+ tyres and a motor courtesy of Continental. Housed in the down tube, the removable battery has a capacity of 612 Wh, and provides the 250-watt motor (either 64Nm or 90Nm) with energy.
The Rose E-MTB can roll on either 27.5+ or 29″ wheels. Thanks to its slack 68° head angle, it should render it a satisfying decent trail mate. According to Christoph Krüppel, the design centred around creating a bike that’s focused on fun.
The short 458mm chainstay should make a generous contribution to the level of fun that this new e-mtb offers. This has been achieved by welding the chainstay via a special yoke onto the mount for the motor. Here’s an overview of the geometry of the three available models:
Size | M | L | XL |
---|---|---|---|
Top tube horiz. | 595 mm | 620 mm | 640 mm |
Chainstays | 458 mm | 458 mm | 458mm |
Head angle | 68° | 68° | 68° |
Seat angle | 74,5° | 74,5° | 74,5° |
BB height | -55 mm | -55 mm | -55 mm |
Seat tube length | 440 mm | 480 mm | 520 mm |
Reach | 412 mm | 437 mm | 457 mm |
Stack | 660 mm | 660 mm | 666 mm |
But this E-MTB doesn’t just mark a brand new venture for ROSE, it’s also the very first time that Continental have designed a motor specifically for an off-road bike. To enable it to be as intuitive as possible to use, they’ve created a special lever together with Ergon that you press to switch between the levels of pedal-assist.
The official retail price hasn’t yet been made public, and nor have the details of the various build specs that the bike will be available in.
