AMPRIO E-Mountainbike Motor

AMPRIO, a start-up company of the Rheinmetall Group, first presented its e-bike engine to the public at the Eurobike 2017. The ambition of AMPRIO is clear; they want to be the new benchmark in this segment. A clear statement, underlined by Alexander Baumann, Head of Sales, Marketing and Product Management at AMPRIO with the following figures:

  • 128 mm axle width and thus the smallest Q factor on the market
  • 80 Nm output
  • 2.8 kg target weight, the current prototypes still weigh approx. 3 kg
  • 48 V system guarantees more durability due to the low currents
  • very compact motor unit: length 183mm, width 128mm, housing width 106mm, height 87mm
  • efficient, active decoupling at speeds above 25 km/h

Instead of an adaptation, the AMPRIO engine is an entirely new development specially designed for e-bikes up to 25 km/h. The Rheinmetall Group has a wealth of experience and a wealth of know-how in the field of electric water pumps for the automotive sector, which they have implemented in the development of the AMPRIO E-Bike motor. Therefore, the motor should be very heat-resistant on uphills without losing power. The legally regulated nominal power is 250 watts, with a peak power output of up to 650 watts.

The design of the AMPRIO E-Bike engine is extremely compact.

The AMPRIO e-bike engine will be available as a prototype for bike manufacturers this spring and will be on the market by 2020. The motor unit was not only developed in Germany but will also be produced entirely in Germany. AMPRIO wants to offer complete systems, i.e. engine, Intube battery, display, app and switch, as well as supply motors by themselves. Service will also be covered by AMPRIO. Depending on the application, a customised motor software will be offered to bike manufacturers. We are looking forward to the first in depth review!

The AMPRIO e-bike engine can be installed at angles in the range of 0° to 60° making it possible to build bikes with very short chainstays.
