EUROBIKE 2015 | Moustache Samedi 27.5 Down

At this year’s EUROBIKE there has been a visible trend with many E-mountain bike manufacturers towards both the use of new Plus tires and an increase in travel. Moustache is also increasing its range with a 170 or 195mm travel full-suspension model, the Samedi 27.5 Down.

Der Name ist Programm: Das neue Moustache Samedi 27.5 Down (hier zu sehen: Rahmengröße S) ist mit superlangem Radstand und 170/180 mm Federweg voll auf Abfahrt ausgerichtet.
The clue’s in the name: the new Moustache Samedi 27.5 Down (pictured here frame size S) is very much downhill-oriented with its extra long wheelbase and 170/180 mm travel.

As the name suggests, unlike the two other models in the Samedi range, the 27.5 Down sits on 27.5“ wheels front and back and is completely dedicated to downhill performance.

This is clear in all aspects: the extra-long wheelbase (Size S: 1212mm) and a slack head angle (64.8°) create stability at top speed. Short chainstays (460mm) should leave the bike a little more maneuverable and even the spec is designed for DH use. On the cheaper of the two versions (Down 5) there is a downhill shock with steel coil (Rock Shox Kage RC) and a brand new 180mm travel Yari fork from the same brand. On the expensive model (Down 7) a Rock Shox Lyrik provides 180mm of travel and a Vivid air shock works at the back. For those who need even more, Moustache also approves the use of a dual crown fork, and the shock mount can be switched to increase the rear travel from 170 to 195mm.

Both models rely on powerful MAGURA MT 5 brakes to stop, the Down 5 uses a SRAM GX rear mech with 10 speeds (11/42), the Down 7 uses an X01 with an extra cog (10/42). From down in the valley it should be nice and easy to pedal back up again quickly, presumably more than once, thanks to the Bosch Performance CX motor with its 500 Wh battery.

Das Cockpit ist markenlos, verfügt aber mit 780 mm Lenkerbreite und 45 mm Vorbaulänge über angenehme Maße und macht einen hochwertigen Eindruck.
The cockpit is a no-name brand but uses well proportioned 780mm wide bars and a 45mm stem, creating a high-quality look.

Moustache offers a 5 year guarantee on the frame, which together with the approval of dual crown forks makes a clear statement considering what it will be used for. As the target customer group will probably be quite small, the Moustache 27.5 Down will at first only be available in 2 frame sizes (S and L), which are really rather similar in proportions (horizontal top tube length is 594mm in S and 629mm in L).

Die hauseigene verstellbare Sattelstütze macht einen sehr guten Eindruck, bietet in der Rahmengröße S mit 60 mm allerdings etwas wenig Hub. In Größe L werden 125 mm zur Verfügung gestellt.
The in-house dropper post looks very good but has too little travel in size S with 60mm. In size L it has 125mm of travel.

We could not obtain any precise info about prices or availability. The website (moustachebikes.com) is also not yet up to date, but this should change by the end of the year at the latest.
